Frequently Asked Questions

What is Mediwrap?
Mediwrap is a modern, non-woven textile combining man-made and natural fibres. It is
manufactured by Mediwrap Limited at our manufacturing facility in Bristol, England. A highly
absorbent, fibrous, cellulose material is laminated, by means of a unique, non-toxic, non-latex
bonding process, to a vacuum-aluminised plastic film, providing moisture and gas barrier
protection. Its outer surface is wind- and waterproof and the inner side is soft, comfortable and
absorbent. This absorbent side also has thermal ability aided by a heat reflective core.

What tests have been done on Mediwrap textile?

Why is Mediwrap better than a traditional blanket?
Traditional woolen or cotton blankets are not windproof or waterproof. Unless properly cleaned after
each usage, traditional blankets can harbor infection, putting patients and staff at risk and
organisations at risk from negligence claims. Cleaning old-fashioned blankets effectively is a
costly and difficult process, with each wash reducing the thermal effectiveness of the blankets.
They are heavy, especially when wet.
Mediwrap textile blankets are single use products with a comfortable, soft, insulating inner lining
and a non-conductive, windproof and waterproof outer layer. Designed to arrest hypothermia and
stabilise patient temperature, they are able to absorb in excess of ten times their own weight
of body fluids whilst keeping patients warm and dry. The material also acts as a total barrier to
bacteria, protecting staff and patients from cross infection caused by previously used bedding.
Used by hospitals, ambulances and other emergency services around the world, Mediwrap is of
particular use in pre-hospital and hospital trauma situations, operating theatres, recovery rooms,
A&E wards and in the transfer of critically ill patients .A recent report from the NHS Regional
Radiation Protection Service confirms that Mediwrap textile is invisible to x-ray, meaning that
their blankets do not need to be removed prior to x-ray.
